City Tourism Office Currently Accepting HOT Grant Applications

The City of Baytown Tourism Division is now accepting applications from non-profit corporations and organizations whose events or projects promote the tourism and hotel industry of Baytown. The Hotel Occupancy Tax (HOT) Grant applications must be turned in by Friday, September 15, by 5 pm to  the Tourism Office, located at 2401 Market Street and marked to the attention of Anna Yowell, Tourism Coordinator.

Applications may be obtained online at www.visitbaytown.com/hot-grant-info or by calling (281) 420-5343 or by email to Tourism@baytown.org. Late or incomplete applications will not be considered.

By state law, the City of Baytown collects a Hotel Occupancy Tax (the HOT) from all lodging facilities located within the City limits. The City then provides annual funding from a portion of the HOT revenue fund to non-profit corporations and organizations whose programs or special events qualify. There are stringent requirements concerning the use of Hotel Occupancy Tax funds. Each non-profit corporation or organization who applies for funding from the HOT may only use the funds to promote tourism and the convention and hotel industry in the City; in other words, every funded project or event must attract visitors to stay overnight in the City. In addition, an organization’s programs or special events must fit into one or more of the categories as outlined in Section 351.101 of the Texas Tax Code to qualify.

The Tourism Division is excited to offer this opportunity to the tourism community and its many partners. For more information on the City’s HOT Grants or to download the application, visit www.visitbaytown.com/hot-grant-info. The Tourism Office can also be reached at 281-420-5343 or by email to Tourism@Baytown.org.
