Responsible for oversight of daily accounting operations to ensure that the financial reporting is in a timely manner in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles. Responsibilities include preparing financial reports, interpreting financial data, designing internal controls, maintaining the City's computerized financial systems, staffing, training, and coordinating the work flow. Supervises and evaluates the accounting staff to ensure that departmental goals and objectives are met. Plans, organizes and schedules all phases of the fiscal year-end closing in preparation for the City's Comprehensive Annual Financial Report.
Attendance is an essential function of this position. The City reserves the right to require an employee in this position to work more than 40 hours a week. This position provides services or performs duties for the benefit of the general public during emergency situations. These may include services or duties different from those performed in the usual course and scope of your job. In the event of an evacuation, the incumbent in this position may be required to remain to perform needed services.
REQUIRED:
1. Bachelor's degree in accounting or related field from an accredited college or university.
2. Five years professional level experience in finance or accounting OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.
3. Three years progressive management and supervisory experience.
4. Clear criminal history background.
5. Word processing and advanced spreadsheet experience.
6. Valid Texas driver’s license with acceptable driving record.
PREFERRED:
1. Master’s degree in Business Administration, Public Administration, or Accounting from an accredited college or university.
2. Certified Public Accountant.
3. Working knowledge of GASB rules and governmental financial reporting and budgeting.
