Registration for the 19th annual Wade Into Wetlands Summer Science Camp, sponsored by Chevron Phillips, begins February 28 at the Eddie V. Gray Wetlands Education Center, 1724 Market Street, Baytown, Texas.
The award-winning program is for 6 to 15-year-old youth entering grades 1-10 in the fall. This summer’s camps run from June 4 through August 17 and include hands-on indoor and outdoor activities with exciting field trips to local attractions related to each camp’s theme. Applications are accepted until the camps are filled.
This year, both the Wetlands Center (WERC) and Baytown Nature Center (BNC) offer a variety of topics and times. Each weeklong full-day camp from 8 am to 4 pm at the Wetlands Center is $150. At the nature center, half-day weekly morning camps from 8 am-noon and evening camps from 6-10 pm are $75. A limited number of academic and financial scholarships are available. Academic scholarships are based on recommendations from the child’s science teacher, while financial scholarships are based on need, with proof of 2017 family income required. Before and after-camp care (WERC only) is offered for an additional fee. All scholarship applications, as well as any camp fees, are due at time of registration.
The summer schedule includes three full-day camps at WERC and two half-day morning camps for grades 1-3. Campers entering grades 4-6 in the fall may choose from four full-day camps at WERC and two four-hour evening camps at BNC. Seventh through tenth grade campers have three full-day camps at WERC, and one four-hour evening camp at BNC.
A flyer with complete information on each camp, along with the necessary registration and scholarship forms may be picked up at the Wetlands Center at 1724 Market or downloaded from the City of Baytown’s web site, www.baytown.org on the Eddie V.
