Baytown Police Arrest Serial Robbery Suspects
The Baytown Police Department has been actively investigating a string of aggravated robberies targeting area convenience stores since January 4th, 2011. During this period of time, three convenience stores in the city limits of Baytown have been robbed at gunpoint by multiple suspects wearing Halloween-style and black masks.
On January 4th at 10:24pm, three subjects entered the Tri-Stop Grocery at 1800 Massey-Tompkins Rd. The subjects were wearing Halloween-style masks, and one subject was armed with a rifle. The subjects demanded money from the store clerk, who refused and pushed metal shelving over at the would-be robbers, causing them to flee the store.
On January 5th at 11:22pm, three subjects entered Jacks Food Mart at 620 Park St. The subjects were again wearing Halloween-style masks, and one subject was armed with a rifle. The subjects demanded money from the store clerk, who complied, and the suspects escaped with an undetermined amount of money.
On January 6th at 1:21am, just three hours later, three subjects entered the Valero convenience store at 3000 W. Baker Rd. Two of the subjects were wearing Halloween-style masks, and the third subject was a female wearing a black ski mask. One of the male subjects was armed with a rifle. The two male subjects rushed the clerk, knocking him to the ground. The clerk was pushed to the register and struck in the head with the rifle, while being ordered to open the cash register. The clerk was unable to open the register and one suspect began to beat on the register in an attempt to open it. The suspects were unsuccessful and fled the store.
On January 13th 2011 at 9:19pm, the Baytown Police Department received a telephone call stating subjects in masks were about to rob Super J’s Convenience Store, located at 2110 James Bowie Dr. Officers quickly arrived in the area and observed a silver passenger car, as described by witnesses, leaving the area. Officers stopped and detained the subjects, and found several items linking them to the previous robberies, such as black masks, gloves, and a rifle.
Investigators spoke with the subjects, all of whom confessed to various roles in the robberies, as well as the attempted robbery from this night. Two adult males, one adult female, and one juvenile female were subsequently charged as follows:
- Alvin Ray Jones, 19 years of age black male from McNair, two counts of aggravated robbery with a deadly weapon
- Calvin Ray Jones Jr., 21 years of age black male from Baytown, two counts of aggravated robbery
- Jakeria Ramoniza Haggerty, 18 years of age black female from Baytown, two counts of aggravated robbery
- Additionally, a juvenile female from Highlands was arrested for one count of aggravated robbery.
