How Should I Properly Dispose of Household Hazardous Wastes (HHW)?
HHW must not be disposed in regular trash. Residents may want to hold such items for the next scheduled HHW collection event (generally held in April). In the meantime, there are several options available for proper disposal of some types of HHW.
Permanent collection sites for Household Hazardous Waste (HHW) nearby are listed here. For Baytown residents in Harris County, the newest HHW collection site is at:
6900 Hahl Rd (at 290 and North Gessner)
Houston, TX 77040
281-560-6200
Hours Open to the Public:
Wednesdays - 9AM - 3PM
2nd Saturdays of each month - 9AM - 3PM
This facility may be closed during holiday weeks.
Baytown residents living in Chambers County are invited to contact Chambers County Environmental Protection for questions regarding proper disposal, at 409-267-8392 or http://www.co.chambers.tx.us/offices/environmental.html.
Latex paint may be disposed with regular trash once it is COMPLETELY dried out. For a large volume, one option is to put a large garbage bag in a big cardboard box and then pour out the paint (in layers if necessary) until all the material is dry. Please note: this is only for latex (water-based) paints, NOT for those which are oil-based (including also varnishes, lacquers, or similar).
For additional drop-off locations and more local HHW contact information, visit Earth911.com.
