Welcome to Baytown!

Whether you're relocating for a job or seeking a lifestyle away from the hustle and bustle of Houston (yet within easy reach of the amenities of the nation's 4th largest city), it's easy to find yourself at home in Baytown. We offer a friendly community with great schools, excellent city services and a nationally-recognized parks and recreation program. With restaurants to suit any palate, an award-winning family waterpark, exceptional sporting and recreational opportunities, the Baytown area boasts something for everyone.

We hope the following resources help make your move as smooth as possible.

Schools
The City of Baytown is serviced by the Goose Creek Consolidated School District. The district operates independently from the City of Baytown, guided by their own administration and funded by their own taxes.

Driver License and Registration
The Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) oversees state driver licenses and ID cards. New residents are permitted to drive with a valid, unexpired license for 90 days following a move. There is a DPS office located in Baytown at 5420 Decker Drive. They can be contacted by calling(281) 424-3669 or by email.

Vehicle Registration and License Plates
The Texas Department of Motor Vehicles handles vehicle registration and license plates. Vehicles must be inspected before they are registered in the state of Texas. The Texas Department of Public Safety provides a list of inspection sites and current fees.

Public Transportation
The Baytown Fixed Route service is a project of Harris County Transit Services and is designed to bring public transit service to the city of Baytown. Harris County Transit Services currently provides the Baytown Fixed Route service, an elderly / disabled taxi program within the county and a park & ride service from Baytown to Downtown Houston. You can find more information about these services here.

Utilities
Powertochoose.org provides a database of electric providers and fact sheets on each plan.Regardless of the company or plan selected, CenterPoint Energy will manage the electrical infrastructure (such as power lines) for your residence. You will not receive a separate bill from CenterPoint; however, in case of an outage, they will be your contact.

Gas service is provided by CenterPoint Energy. To arrange for service connection you can visit them online or call 713-659-2111.

Cable television, telephone and internet service is provided by Comcast Xfinity.

Trash and Recycling billing is handled by the City of Baytown, though service is provided under contract by Waste Management. Service begins automatically when new residents request water and sewer service. Water and Sewer service is handled by the City of Baytown.

Pets and Animals
Domestic pets must be registered with Harris County and receive regular rabies vaccinations. Dogs and cats must wear a collar with vaccination tags at all times.

Taxes and Appraisals
The sales tax rate for the City of Baytown is 8.25%.
Property taxes are collected by the GCCISD tax office and are based on the property's appraised value.
The Harris County Appraisal District appraises all property in Harris County to determine value. Homes located in Chambers County are appraised by the Chambers County Appraisal District. Appraisals happen every year. Like Harris and Chambers Counties and the state of Texas, the City of Baytown does not collect an income tax.
