The Investigative Bureau is responsible in two areas:
- Follow up on assigned cases originally handled by Patrol Bureau
- Initiate and investigate violations relating to narcotics, vice, or any other offense where an officer must go "undercover."
- Maintain all items of evidence in criminal cases and other items which have been collected for safekeeping, found and unclaimed, and items which are subject to seizure.
The Investigations Bureau consists of the Criminal Investigations Division, the Narcotics / Special Operations Division, the Identification Division, and the Property Division. All are commanded by Captain Roger Clifford.

The Baytown Police Department Property Room maintains all items of evidence in criminal cases and other items which have been collected for safekeeping, found and unclaimed, and items which are subject to seizure. The Property Room staff consists of a Senior Clerk, a Disposal Clerk, a Property Room Custodian and a Clerk. The Senior Clerk is responsible for the operations of the Property Room. She coordinates with the Courts System for the Disposition of property and evidence. The Custodian is responsible for the safekeeping of all property in the Property Room. The Junior Clerk is tasked with ensuring that daily supplies for the Department are maintained and stocked.

The Identification Division handles the processing of crime scenes and other evidence such as fingerprints and photographs.
