The Eighth Annual City of Baytown “Don’t Mess With Texas” Trash-Off event will occur on Saturday, April 5, 2008. Trash-Off is a coordinated effort between the City of Baytown Health Department and the Baytown Beautification Advisory Commission.
Trash-Off is the City’s largest single day cleanup event. Drop-off and registration sites will open at 8:00 a.m. and cleanups will continue until 1:00 p.m. Many volunteers from local neighborhood associations, civic organizations, businesses, industries, scout troops, youth groups, church groups, individual citizens, and other community organizations are expected to participate in this annual event. Last year, 1,247 Baytown volunteers collected 1,418 tires and about 105 tons of trash, litter, and rubbish.
Citizens may bring old furniture, appliances, scrap metal, trash, and junk from 8:00 a.m. until
1:00 p.m. to any of the following five (5) dumpster drop-off sites:
• Wetlands Center (1724 Market)
• Bergeron Park (corner of Louisiana & Kentucky)
• 6400 Bayway
• Sterling High School (300 W. Baker)
• Bay Plaza (N. Alexander Drive & James Bowie)
No site will accept any brush, refrigerators, freezers, air conditioners, oil, paint, batteries, or other household hazardous waste materials. No dumping or drop-off will be allowed at any site after 1:00 p.m.
Citizens and businesses are encouraged to get involved in “Don’t Mess With Texas” and support the City’s efforts to keep Baytown beautiful. Volunteers are needed to help at the drop-off and registration sites that will be set-up throughout the City. Volunteers may clean up in their own residential or business areas or they may select from a list of special areas targeted for cleanup. All Adopt-A-Street groups will be cleaning their adopted areas. This event is a perfect opportunity for groups, businesses or organizations to sign up for the Adopt-A-Street program.
Free Trash-Off t-shirts, gloves, bags, and vests will be available while supplies last. Citizens and businesses are encouraged to register early.
The cleanups will be followed by a celebration ceremony at the Eddie V. Gray Wetlands Education and Recreation Center, 1724 Market Street, starting at 1:00 p.m. Free music (by DJ

There will a special drawing for those volunteers finding litter that has a “Don’t Mess With Texas” logo sticker attached to it. Participants should look in litter hot-spots, ditches, and easements alongside streets in Baytown for litter with the special logo attached. Anyone finding litter with a “Don’t Mess With Texas” sticker attached needs to bring it to the Wetlands Center between 1:00 p.m. and 2:30 p.m. and their name will be entered in the special grand prize drawing.
