The City of Baytown has accepted a donation from Bayer MaterialScience in the amount of $107,350 for the purchase of approximately 19,000 residential recycling bins for Baytown residents. The 18-gallon blue plastic containers will be distributed to all single family and duplex residences in Baytown by the City’s solid waste collection contractor. Once the recycling bins have been delivered and the curbside recycling program begins on June 2nd, residents will be able to place newspapers, aluminum and metal cans and #1 and #2 plastic containers (such as soda bottles or water bottles) in them for weekly pick up at the residents curb.
“We are very appreciative of Bayer MaterialScience for coming forward with their donation,” said Mayor Stephen DonCarlos. “Bayer MaterialScience has been a great corporate citizen of Baytown and this donation further exemplifies their commitment to the community. Recycling is critical to preserving landfill space in our area and we are dedicated to implementing the recycling program.”
City officials anticipate that the recycling bins will be received and distributed to area residences in late April and in May and that recycling will begin on June 2nd.
“Our company strongly supports recycling,” concurred Site Manager Jim Newport, “and we are pleased to fund the bins for an environmental initiative that will add value to Baytown residents for years to come.”
