Baytown Offers Options for Utility Bill Payments

May 15, 2009

Do you want a bill paying option that will save you time and hassle, and perhaps even saving you money? Want to pay your bill in your pajamas or make sure your bill gets paid, even when you are on vacation? The City of Baytown has what you are looking for, with several hassle-free options to make sure your bill gets paid on-time, and without taking up much of your time.

For those who like to make their payments online, without the hassle of writing checks or buying stamps, e-payments can be made on the City’s web site at www.baytown.org.

Online payments can be made at epay.ci.college-station.tx.us. Phone payments can be made by dialing 764-EPAY (3729).

Visa, Mastercard and Discover Card are accepted, and American Express will be accepted soon, said Cathy Stark, the city’s utility customer service supervisor.

Payments can still be made in person at the Utility Customer Service building at 310 Krenek Tap Road. Credit cards can be used when paying in person.

Online visitors are taken to a screen where they are asked to enter their account number.

They are then taken to a screen where they can view their balance, account information and are able to enter a credit card number and payment amount. Options also are available to view past statements and bill information.

Stark said all personal information is protected and safety options have been put in place to keep people from accidentally paying twice.
Payments from identical credit card numbers for the same dollar amounts will not be accepted on the same day.

Payments can be made for more or less than the amount due.

“This is something we’re real excited about,” Stark said. “It is something we’ve been working on for a long time.”

Payments are posted within 24 to 36 hours after they are submitted. Payments submitted the day a bill is due will be considered on time.

From the Web site, customers also can access forms to connect and disconnect service, download automatic bank draft forms and view meter reading dates.

Phone-in customers are greeted by an automated voice that asks for their account number. After entering it, they are given automated payment options and can enter their card number to pay.

“It is easy and straightforward for customers,” Stark said. “And there are no service charges.”

The city is working to establish on-line payments for municipal court fines.
