Daddy and Me Dance Interrupted By Power Outage

February 8, 2010

The City of Baytown was forced to cut short its annual Daddy and Me Dance, held last Friday evening, February 5, due to a transformer-caused power outage combined with generator failure. The power outage occurred at approximately 8 pm, ending the dance after only an hour, to the disappointment of the approximately 700 attendees.

Recreation Services Manager, Mike Flinn issued the following statement: “We were deeply saddened that the Daddy and Me dance had to be ended early. This was a matter that unfortunately was out of our control. Our staff believes that this dance is a tremendously important night, so we are in the process of reviewing existing facility rentals to see if we can reschedule the event. We appreciate your support and patience during this time as we work hard to determine what happened, ensure that it doesn’t happen again, and work towards recreating this magical evening for dads and daughters. “

A new date, at the same location, is expected to be confirmed on Tuesday (February 9), and will be announced on the City’s website (www.baytown.org); on BTV – Comcast Channel 16, and through the media.

Dads and daughters who are unable to attend the rescheduled dance may obtain a full refund by returning the numbered ticket issued to them at the dance (or pre-purchased tickets) to the Parks & Recreation Office located at 2407 Market Street.

Those who plan to attend the rescheduled dance must bring their numbered ticket/”invitation” for readmission. Tickets will be available for purchase for those who did not attend the original dance, but would like to attend the rescheduled one.

For more information about the rescheduled dance, or refunds, call 281-420-6597 or email to parks@baytown.org.
