Baytown Firefighters will once again hit the City’s streets this month to raise money as part of the International Association of Firefighters (IAFF) “Fill the Boot” fundraiser to benefit the Muscular Dystrophy Association (MDA). Local firefighters have three collection dates planned: March 5, 12, and 19 – all Fridays.
“Our goal this year is to raise at least $20,000,” said local IAFF President, and Baytown firefighter Mark Medrano. “Baytown’s residents show wonderful support for this effort, and with the public’s help, we hope to make this our most successful year ever.”
Firefighters will be placed at strategic intersections around town where drivers can drop their dollars and change into the trademark boots. The money collected helps provide services to children and adults living with any one of more than 40 neuromuscular diseases. Services include helping to send children to summer camp, providing clinical services, assisting in the purchase of medical equipment and ultimately finding cures for all of the muscle wasting diseases covered by the MDA.
Donations may also be made by calling 281-932-3513 or online via Pay Pal at www.local1173.org.
The IAFF joined the MDA "Fill the Boot" campaign in 1952 and since then, has raised over $350,000,000 for MDA. Today the IAFF is the single largest sponsor of MDA.
