The City of Baytown Health Department announced today that Tony Gray, Environmental Health Manager, was confirmed as a member of the Governing Council for the Texas Environmental Health Association (TEHA) at the organization’s recent annual educational conference in Austin. Gray was elected to a 3-year term for one of two open positions from the general associational membership placed on the voting ballot. The 18-member Governing Council is charged with the responsibility of managing the affairs of the Association. The Governing Council consists of six members elected from the general associational membership, the Presidents of all local chapters, elected officers of the State Association, and the immediate Past-President of the State Association.
“We’re very proud of Tony’s accomplishment,” said Health Department Director Mike Lester. “His efforts in support of TEHA’s mission and on behalf of the citizens make him a wonderful representative of the City of Baytown.”
Texas Environmental Health Association is a statewide, non-profit professional and educational organization for people who work to abate environmental hazards for the betterment of human health and well-being. The association establishes a common meeting ground for professionals involved in all program areas identified as components of the broad field of environmental health. Members include workers in federal, state and local governments and personnel from industry and educational institutions. TEHA was founded in 1956 as the Texas Association of Sanitarians (TAS). In 1965, the TAS proposed and sponsored the Texas statute that established the Registration of Professional Sanitarians. In 1970, TAS affiliated with the National Environmental Health Association and in 1971 officially changed its name to the Texas Environmental Health Association.
