The City of Baytown Parks and Recreation Department is sponsoring two days of Independence Day festivities on July 3rd and July 4th at Bicentennial Park, located at 1001 Market. The celebration will begin on Thursday, July 3rd at 6:00 p.m. with a performance by The Coastliners, followed by headliner John Conlee taking the stage at 8:00 p.m.
The fun continues on Friday, July 4th beginning at 3:00 p.m. with contests and games the family will enjoy, followed by our opening musical act J. Paul Jr. & the Zydeco Nubreeds at 4:00 p.m. The annual July 4th Parade down Market Street and Lee Drive kicks off at 5:30 p.m.. Opening ceremonies will begin at 5:45 p.m. and will be followed by another musical performance at 6:00 p.m. with The Eli Young Band. Headliner Tracy Byrd will take the stage at 8:00 p.m. The Independence Day festivities will end with a bang from our Fireworks Extravaganza beginning at 9:30 p.m. that is sure to be the talk-of-the-town!
Music is not the only thing going on at Bicentennial Park - there will be a wide variety of food and arts & crafts booths on site selling tasty treats and handmade creations. There will also be a children’s amusement area complete with a fishing tank, wetlands touch tank, a climbing wall, and many other activities to keep the young-ones busy! This year’s event will also include the Little Mr. & Miss Firecracker Costume Contest at 7:30 p.m. Bring your little cutie in patriotic attire!.
Remember to bring lawn chairs, blankets, and sunscreen to the celebration, and tons of energy to enjoy all of the activities! We are allowing pop-up tents, shade tarps or umbrellas in the spectator area; however, they must be taken down by 6:00 p.m. There will also be 20 foot x 30 foot tents available in the spectator area to escape the sun. Space under the tents is available on a first come first served basis.
Public parking will be available at the Eddie V. Gray Wetlands Education and Recreation Center, Robert E. Lee High School, Lee College, Goose Creek, and Sterling Library. There are also several other lots located along Texas Avenue.
There will be no street closures on Thursday, July 3rd, however, on Friday, July 4th the following streets will be closed - Market Street from Stadium Drive to Texas Avenue, Lee Drive from Market Street to Gentry, and Gentry Street from Lee Drive to Carnegie - starting at 10:00 a.m. until and 11:00 p.m. after the fireworks show is over.
