Night of Vehicle Crashes Keeps Baytown Police Busy

September 30, 2009

During the evening and nighttime hours of Tuesday September 30, 2009 the Baytown Police Department responded to several major crashes involving motor vehicles.

2009-40777

The first crash occurred just after 8:00 pm and officers arrived to find an 18 wheeler had left the main slab of I-10 while traveling west and struck approximately seven vehicles at Community Toyota, located in the 4700 Block of I-10 West. It is unknown exactly how much damage was caused by the 18 wheeler and police are still investigating to determine exactly what happened. The driver of the 18 wheeler was taken to Memorial Herman Hospital by Life Flight for treatment of his injuries and his current condition is unknown at this time.

2009-40800

The second crash occurred just after midnight and officers arrived to find the apparent victim of a motorcycle crash lying in the middle of the entrance ramp of westbound I-10 near North Main Street. The driver of the motorcycle was later taken to Memorial Herman Hospital by Life Flight for treatment of his injuries and his current condition is unknown at this time. The driver of the motorcycle was not wearing a helmet at the time of the accident

2009-40807

The third crash occurred in the 5300 block of Bayway Dr around 2:00 this morning. Witnesses reported a vehicle traveling north on Bayway attempted to pass two other vehicles at a high rate of speed. The vehicle went across both oncoming lanes of traffic before over-correcting and coming back across the roadway. The vehicle rolled over at least once and came to rest in a ditch on the side of the roadway. Three Baytown men, 23 year old Aaron Lee Bishop, 20 year old Marshall Donnie Head III, and 24 year old Matthew Cole Smith, were pronounced dead at the scene. Officers trained in accident reconstruction are investigating this tragic crash.
