Closure of Pine Street Railroad Crossing

August 2, 2007

In accordance with the directives of the Baytown City Council, the railroad crossing at Pine Street together with the west side of J.B. LeFevre between Airhart and Dayton will be closed beginning August 6, 2007.

The City will temporarily close this location pending review and recommendation by the Planning and Zoning Commission for its permanent closure, which will require City Council approval. The City will place signs at both ends of the closure to inform the public at least one week prior to the road’s closure.

At this time, the City does not propose to abandon the right-of-way and believes that the closure is necessary for the public safety.

The City will make applications with Union Pacific Railroad to defray the costs of roadway changes for $7,500 and with TxDOT for eligible safety improvements, including signage and barricades for $7,500. The application process is expected to take approximately 18 to 24 months.

If you have any questions and/or concerns, please direct all calls to Mike Kuykendall, Traffic Coordinator for the City of Baytown at 281-420-5399 or visit out website at www.baytown.org.
