Police will use Lakeview Terrace Apartments for Training

February 5, 2008

On Thursday, February 7, 2008, members of the City’s Police Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) team will conduct live training exercises at five condemned buildings at Lakeview Terrace Apartments in Baytown. The property’s owner through foreclosure, Grand Pacific Finance Corp., has graciously allowed SWAT team members to use the buildings for tactical training exercises before demolition.

“We really appreciate Grand Pacific Corporation allowing us to use their property,” said Interim Police Chief Keith Dougherty. “This is a great benefit for our police department to sharpen their skills in handling emergencies through realistic training exercises in a multi-family complex. This unique circumstance provides training realism and effectiveness not obtained in other settings.”

The Police SWAT team is a highly specialized and trained unit that responds to special emergencies. Members of the SWAT team receive their special training at local, regional, state and federal law enforcement agencies.
