Geokinetics USA, Inc., working in conjunction with Cougar Land Services, will conduct a 3D seismic survey of Baytown and the surrounding area. The survey, which uses a combination of motion sensing devices and energy sources, will allow for the effective evaluation of the area’s hydrocarbon reserves. The project, which began on June 8, will continue through the middle of July, and will encompass 47.5 square miles in both Harris and Chambers Counties.
These energy sources consist of shot holes (placed in 60 ft. holes, at 220 ft. intervals) in undeveloped areas, and special trucks containing Vibroseis machines in developed areas. Residents can expect to see survey crews marking the proposed sites, clearing vegetation and drilling. All work will be conducted in daylight hours and after noon on Sundays.
Crew presence in any given area would be brief, as operations progress quickly through the project area; however, cables and other recording equipment will be laid out along receiver lines for the duration of operations. Residents may notice low flying helicopters which will be used to support the data recording operations. Project impacts are expected to be minimal and temporary in nature.
