The City of Baytown is seeking volunteers and sponsors for the 29th Annual Baytown Special Olympics Track & Field Meet. The event will be held Saturday, April 17, at Goose Creek Memorial Stadium (6001 E. Wallisville Road). Opening ceremonies begin at 9:30 a.m., with competition beginning at 10 a.m.
The mission of Special Olympics is to provide year-round sports training and athletic competition in a variety of Olympic-type sports for children and adults with intellectual disabilities. These competitions give them opportunities to develop physical fitness, demonstrate courage, experience joy, and participate in the sharing of gifts, skills and friendship with their families, other Special Olympics athletes and the community. The motto adopted by Special Olympics’ athletes is “Let me win, but if I cannot win, let me be brave in the attempt.”
A variety of volunteer and sponsorship opportunities are available for individuals and businesses. For more information contact the City of Baytown Parks & Recreation Department at 281-420-6597 or by email to pard@baytown.org.
