Youth Poster Contest to Kick off TrashOff
February 5, 2010
The City of Baytown Health Department is asking the youth of our community to help celebrate the 10th anniversary of TrashOff Baytown by participating in a TrashOff Poster Contest. Baytown residents from kindergarten – 12th grade may submit an original poster in one of three themes:
- This is our Home. Please don’t Litter.
- Don’t Mess with Baytown, Texas.
- Keep Baytown Beautiful.
All posters must be completely original, hand-drawn artwork on white 8 ½ “ x 11” paper. No digital, chalk, charcoal, or photography artwork will be accepted. Accepted media is crayon, pen, pencil, markers, and paint. Because the artwork will be reproduced on a t-shirt, posters should be limited to five standard colors: black, red, blue, yellow, and green.
Artwork may be mailed, but hand-delivery at one of these city facilities is preferred: City Hall (2401 Market Street), Health Department (220 West Defee), or Sterling Municipal Library (1 Mary Elizabeth Wilbanks Avenue). All posters must be received by the City of Baytown no later than 4 pm on February 26, 2010. Late entries will not be considered.
Category winners will be selected from the following groups:
- K – 2nd grade
- 3rd – 5th grade
- 6th – 12th grade
A panel of “celebrity” judges will select 1st, 2nd and 3rd place winners in each age group. Winning posters will be featured on BTV – Channel 16, City of Baytown Web page, actual artwork to be displayed at City Hall until the Trash Off event on April 10th and may appear in future City of Baytown publications; and winners from each category will compete for the overall winning poster. The overall winning poster will be printed on the TrashOff Baytown 2010 t-shirts. Winners will be recognized at the March 25th City Council Meeting at City Hall.
Posters become the property of the City of Baytown and may be used at the City’s discretion in future promotional campaigns. Winning artists will be required to provide the City with a parental/guardian release allowing the child’s photograph and name to be used with their artwork in promotion of the event. Only one poster submittal per person will be accepted. All submissions must include the artist’s name, current grade level, address, parent’s name, and contact phone number.
