Keep Baytown Beautiful By Participating in Texas Recycles Day

November 2, 2009

The City of Baytown Health Department will host its ninth annual City of Baytown, Texas Recycles Day, Saturday, November 7; 9 am – 3 pm, in the south parking lot of Lowe’s on Garth Road(the side closest to Luna’s).

Through the generous support of our sponsors, Baytown residents will be able to dispose of the following items for recycling: motor oil, oil filters, anti-freeze, passenger tires, automotive batteries, newspapers and magazines. No other items will be accepted. Participants will be asked to provide their name and address. No businesses or commercial drop offs will be allowed. Residents who bring 10 used plastic grocery bags can exchange them for a recycled, reusable H-E-B shopping bag (limit 2 per household, while supplies last).

“The City of Baytown is committed to our goal of keeping our streets, bayous and neighborhoods free of litter and other hazards,” said Neighborhood Protection Coordinator, Wendy Vola. “I encourage all of our residents to take advantage of these events; not only to dispose of this unsightly garbage, but to do it in a way that is good for the community and good for the environment.”

This environmentally friendly event is coordinated with hundreds of other Keep Texas Beautiful affiliates throughout the state and is part of the City’s Litter Abatement and Keep Baytown Beautiful programs.

City of Baytown, Texas Recycles Day is made possible through the continued support of our 2009 Partners Against Litter Sponsors: ExxonMobil, Bayer Baytown Industrial Park, Chevron Phillips Chemical Company; NRG Cedar Bayou Plant, Liberty Tire Recycling, LLC, and The Baytown Sun.

Special thanks to our Recycling Sponsors: Lowe’s Home Improvement, H-E-B, Wal-Mart (recycling the batteries), H&H Oil – Baytown (recycling the oil, oil filters and anti-freeze), Liberty Tire Recycling, LLC (recycling tires), and Abitibi – Bowater Recycling Division (recycling newspapers and magazines).

Last year’s event had 72 households participating in the recycling activities; and was responsible for removing 299 tires, 46 batteries, 165 gallons of oil, 17 oil filters, 20 gallons of anti-freeze, and 1800 pounds of newspapers and magazines from our community.
