Shito Ryu Karate
Category: All Have you or your children wanted to learn martial arts but just never knew where to take lessons or what style to learn? The City of Baytown is offering Shito-Ryu, one of the major karate systems of Japan proper (the Japanese islands excluding Okinawa). Come pick up an exciting new hobby where you can learn self-discipline and pick-up skills that allows you and your children to feel safe no matter where you are!

This class is open to both newcomers, and to more experienced students. Our instructor, Mr. Edgar Valdez, is a nationally recognized instructor of Shito-Ryu. Not only are you going to learn a great self defense art but you will be learning basic Japanese as you will be using traditional Japanese calls. Space is limited, so pre-registration is recommended

Beginner Ballroom Dance
Category: Adult
Do you wish you could ballroom dance like the stars? You can make that dream come true. The Baytown Parks & Recreation department has Latin Ballroom and American Ballroom dancing lessons for beginners and intermediates. If you always wanted to learn how to ballroom dance but never knew where to start, this is the right place for you. This class will have you out on the floor and ballroom dancing in no time.

Bucket List Category: Adult Could've, should've, would've! Are you one of those people afraid to take chances? Are there those things you want to do but you cannot find people to do them with you? Come by and visit with the Baytown Bucket List Club. We go on adventures ranging from things as simple as visiting the zoo, going to a sporting event or visiting a theatre in the evening all the way to the extremes of sky diving, white water rafting and heading to Louisiana to try our luck with the gambling gods!

The club will meet on the third Monday of every month to have a round table discussion on what activities to do as a group. It is a great place for couples to come to add that extra spark and meet other couples. At the same time it is a great place for singles in the area to come and meet new people and other singles that share the same interests as you.

Ballet
Category: Youth
Pre-Ballet is for children that are starting for the first time. This class provides a bridge between Creative Dance and the first level of ballet which will introduce your child to the structure and discipline of a ballet class. They will learn music awareness and basic ballet terminology that emphasizes through movements to music.

Ballet is carefully choreographed, it's graceful, flowing, precise movements, and its ethereal qualities will help develop body strength, flexibility, focus and self discipline.

Boot Camp
Category: Adult
Don’t let the holiday pounds sneak up on you. Get a jumpstart on the New Year and a new you! Swag Fitness and The Baytown Community Center proudly host the kickboxing boot camp. Michelle Carlson will get you jump started on your New Years Resolutions while having you feeling guilt free about the Holiday food you are about to eat!

All you need to do is come ready to sweat. Bringing a water bottle and sweat towel are encouraged. Nutritional counseling is also included in this invaluable class. You get great instruction that will start you the path to becoming a healthy active person for the rest of your life.

Zumba
Category: All

Ditch the workout and join the party! Zumba is a total body workout designed to melt body fat and reshape your entire body, especially the waist, hips, and thighs. Your instructor, Michelle C, will also utilize light toning equipment to really boost the metabolism and burn some serious fat. A workout so fun, you can hardly call it works. What are you waiting for? Let’s ZUMBA!

Belly Dancing

Bored with aerobics, tired of “taebo,” or are you just looking for something fun and different to do? The Baytown Parks and Recreation Department is now accepting registrations for their popular tribal fusion belly dance class which takes place on Wednesday evenings from 6pm – 7pm at the Baytown Community Center, 2407 Market Street.

There is no need to feel shy in this class – you’ll learn the basics of belly dance in a relaxed and friendly atmosphere, then dazzle your friends and family members as you “shimmy” onto the dance floor or into the living room. Instructor Tiffany Wixson has 4+ years of experience and currently dances with the Shunyata dance group in and around Houston and Kemah. Tiffany is also a performer each year at the Texas Renaissance Festival.

Messy Mitts

Category: Youth Do you have a young child that shows interest in Arts & Crafts? Bring your child or visiting grand child to Messy Mitts; a program where they will be introduced into the wonderful world of Art! The children will do fun activities like dirt diggin’ for worms, tye-dying, finger painting and many other exciting “messy” activities.

This class is open to children aged 2-7 and absolutely no experience is necessary, only a willing participant! If you have been looking for the perfect place to take your kids so they can make a mess and you don’t have to worry about the fuss of cleaning afterwards then you have found your class. The class is held on Tuesdays at the Baytown Community Center. Class space is limited, so pre-registration is recommended.

Defensive Driving

Category: All

Tired of high insurance rates, need a break on that speeding ticket because you have too many of those pesky points on your drivers license already? The City of Baytown Parks & Recreation Department along with Mercado and Associates are now offering Defensive Driving at the Baytown Community Center, 2407 Market Street. No matter your schedule you will be able to complete your requirements in no time.

This class is open to anyone who is interested. If you are above 18 and wanting a drivers license you must complete a defensive driving course before you can get that drivers license! Whatever your reasons for taking the class Baytown is the place to do it!

Skateboarding

Category: All

Have you always wanted to learn to skateboard but never knew where to start? Well then Baytown is your place! The City of Baytown Parks and Recreation Department along with Clear Lake Skateboarding Company are excited to offer skateboarding lessons for the most inexperienced person to those wanting to perfect their skills and move to the next level.

Baytown Parks & Recreation is offering skateboarding lessons at Baytown Skate Park, 4334 Crosby Cedar Bayou Road. Lessons will be taught by professional skateboarders from the PA Skateboarding team.
