What is Neighborhood Protection?
Neighborhood Protection is a division of the City of Baytown Health Department established to assist the citizens of Baytown in helping to improve the Image and Beautification of our City through active involvement in four major activities:
Enforcement Activities
Neighborhood Protection Officers routinely survey the City and respond to residents’ complaints. Enforcement activities include, but are not limited to: (1) keeping properties free of high grass, weeds and excess vegetation; (2) keeping properties free of trash, rubbish, filth, debris, brush and unsightly matter of any kind; (3) keeping properties free of openly stored items, such as, building materials, appliances, tires, etc.; (4) keeping properties free of junk vehicles; and (5) abating illegal dumpsites.
Cleanup Activities
Neighborhood Protection coordinates three major cleanup and recycling events a year: Don’t Mess With Texas Trash-Off (every first Saturday in April, except when that Saturday is before Easter, then it is the Saturday following Easter), West Baytown Fall Cleanup (every first Saturday in October), Texas Recycling Day (every first Saturday in November). A Community Service Station is also provided to allow probationers the opportunity to complete required community service work hours. The Keep Baytown Beautiful and Adopt-A-Street programs are also administrative through Neighborhood Protection.
Educational Activities
Neighborhood Protection routinely participates in and provides educational display booths and literature for community events, such as: Health Fairs, Business Expos, etc. Neighborhood Protection Officers are also available for public presentations to neighborhood association and other community groups.
Public Awareness Activities
On a daily basis, Neighborhood Protection Officers interact with the citizens of the City of Baytown, helping to promote public awareness of typical Neighborhood Protection violation issues and how they affect the Image and Beautification of Baytown.
