The Baytown Fire Department is a carrer fire department of nearly 100 professional men and women. An annual written examination is given to establish an eligibility list; candidates for employment must pass the written examination to be under consideration for employment. The current eligibility list will expire in December of 2008 at which time a new test will be scheduled. Applications are accepted from those both with and without fire and EMT certifications and applications from those certified as EMT-P or with a college degree are especially encouraged.
