Alarm Permits

All business and residential alarms that can emit a signal intended to summon police or fire services must have a city permit issued. Responsibility for obtaining an alarm permit is upon the alarm system user. Operating an alarm system without a city permit can result in a Municipal Court citation being issued. There is no cost for the alarm permit.  Alarm Permit Applications can be obtained in the following ways:

  1. A Microsoft Word format Alarm Permit Application Form (36k) can be obtained by downloading from this site.
  2. Paper Forms can be obtained at the Police Station (3200 North Main Street), Fire Administration Office (201 East Wye Drive), or City Hall (2401 Market Street).

Business alarm permits expire annually on the anniversary date of the permit. Residential permits do not expire. If any of the permit information changes, the alarm operator must submit a supplemental application. If the permit holder moves, they must notify the Police Department so the permit can be canceled. If they have an alarm at their new location, they must apply for a new permit.

When officers determine that an alarm is false, a pink false alarm 'NOTICE' will be left at the location to alert the alarm operator. The alarm user has ten days to appeal the false alarm in writing. There is no charge for the first 5 false alarm responses annually (tracked by calendar year). Each false alarm response after the first 5 will result in a $50 charge. False alarm invoices are mailed out monthly by the Support Services Bureau, and payments are returned to this Bureau (Baytown Police Department, ATTN:  Support Services Bureau, 3200 North Main Street, Baytown, TX  77521) for deposit into the General Fund.
