All residential driveways shall conform to City of Baytown residential driveway standard.
1. After forms and reinforcement have been installed and prior to concrete placement you must request an inspection from the City of Baytown Inspections Department.
2. All residential driveways shall be a minimum of 4” concrete reinforced with #3 deformed bars @ 24” on center each direction or 6”x6” - #6 wire mesh. At the point where residential driveways enter the City right-of-way the concrete shall be a minimum of 5” concrete reinforced with #3 deformed bars @ 2’ centers each direction.
3. Slope of driveway will start at 1 ½” above flow line of gutter.
4. Where sidewalks exist or are proposed:
a. If necessary to meet grade requirements, existing sidewalks shall be removed and replaced to proper grade to meet new driveway construction.
b. Vertical curb exposure on the radius of the driveway and street connection shall not extend into the sidewalk.
c. Placement of all sidewalks are at the discretion of the Chief Building Official.
5. Expansion joints in driveways are required at the property line and at 10’ intervals each direction. Expansion joints in approaches shall match any existing joints in the street.
6. All concrete placed shall be Class A concrete (4 ½ sac mix) with a compression strength of at least 3,000 psi at 28 days.
7. Sidewalk construction shall be the same as driveway standards, except for expansion joints shall not exceed 5’ intervals.
All concrete driveways and sidewalks connecting into an asphalt street without curb and gutter shall stop four (4.0) feet from existing edge of pavement.
