Citizens Police Academy

New Classes start January 18th, 2024

Applications are now being accepted for the next Citizens Police Academy.  The next Citizens Police Academy class will start on January 18th, 2024, and end on March 21st, 2024.  If you are interested in being a part of the next Citizens Police Academy, click here to fill out an application.

The Baytown Citizen’s Police Academy is a unique experience conducted by the Police Department and designed to give citizens a better understanding of the day-to-day operation and mission of the Baytown Police Department. The program allows citizens an opportunity to view the inner workings of the Police Department.

This 10-week course will meet on Thursday evenings from 6:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. at the Baytown Police Academy at 203 E. Wye Drive. Each week new topics are discussed.  Topics include;

  • 911 Operations
  • Burglary Investigation
  • Crime Prevention
  • Crimes Against Persons Investigation
  • Department Philosophy
  • Emergency Response Team Operations
  • Firearm Safety
  • Internal Affairs
  • K-9 Policing
  • Narcotics Enforcement
  • Neighborhood Policing
  • Recruiting, Ethics, and Training
  • Tactical Driving
  • Tactical Situation Response
  • Traffic and Patrol

Participation in the academy is open to persons at least 18 years of age who live or work in the City of Baytown. Applications are screened for criminal history to assure the integrity of the class.

Graduates of the Citizens Police Academy will be eligible to participate in the Ride-Along and Citizen On Patrol programs.
