Wetlands, Nature Center, and Park Volunteers
Through education and recreation, the Nature Division of Baytown Parks and Recreation aims to increase awareness, appreciation and understanding of our local environment and cultural history.
Eddie v. Gray Wetlands Center
Volunteers will be leading field trips, teaching programs, and assisting with events. Due to required training, this is ideal for volunteer seeking a longer volunteer opportunity. Teens can join the E.P.I.C. program on Wednesdays from 4 PM - 5 PM. E.P.I.C. is a free service learning club for high school teens that is aimed at learning about, and solving coastal environmental problems through hands-on projects. No registration is required, just come to the Wetlands center (1724 Market St, Baytown, TX 77520) during the Wednesday meeting.
The Wetlands Center hosts the 5th Grade Wetlands Ecology Program and the 7th Grade Liquid Science Program for all 5th and 7th grade students in GCCISD during the Fall and Spring Semesters. Adult volunteers are needed between 9 AM - 12 PM on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays to lead an educational segment of the tour. Training and curriculum is provided. Educational field trips begin between the end of August or September. Once the school year begins, volunteers will be provided with a list of dates that align with their selected day of the week. Learn more or register.
Baytown Nature Center
The Baytown Nature Center utilizes volunteers throughout it's park, from coastline cleanups to building wooden structures. In the past, volunteers have repaired bridges and stages, spread mulch at the playground, paint wooden structures, build and installed bird blinds or bird feeders, refreshed garden beds, and gathered litter. This is best for medium to large groups, clubs, and businesses. Interested volunteers should email kourtney.bonzo@baytown.org with your desired timeline, team size, skills, and interests to be matched with your perfect project.
Individual volunteers can also find volunteer opportunities through the Bird Buddies program to refill bird feeders. Register or learn more about the Bird Buddies program.
Baytown Nature Center
Volunteer teams can provide beautification support at City of Baytown Parks. In the past, groups have spread fresh mulch on playgrounds, painted over graffiti, gathered litter, refreshed garden beds, and even small public art projects.
Interested volunteers should email kourtney.bonzo@baytown.org with your desired timeline, team size, skills, and interests to be matched with your perfect project.
