CarFit Checks
The Baytown Municipal Court now has certified technicians to facilitate the CarFit Program. This educational program is to help mature drivers adjust their vehicles to be safer and more comfortable to drive.
CarFit is a free program that was developed by AARP, AAA and the American Occupational Therapy Association (AOTA)
What does CarFit do?
- Checks the driver's seat position, mirror adjustment, and more
- Raises awareness of adaptive devices
- Helps drivers stay active and safe on the road
- Promotes conversations about safe driving
What does CarFit include?
- A 12-point checklist to ensure the car is adjusted properly
- Information on proper safety belt use and fit
- Information on the safe distance between the driver and their airbag
- Information on clear line of sight above the steering wheel
- Information on mirror positioning to minimize blind spots
- Information on accessing vehicle controls
The program is to help mature drivers yet anyone with a valid license would benefit from the program.
