Charles Johnson is a lifelong resident of Baytown with a deep-rooted passion for service, leadership, and community development. A proud graduate of Ross S. Sterling High School, Lee College, and the College of Biblical Studies, Charles holds multiple degrees in child development, substance abuse counseling, and organizational leadership.
From 2017 to 2022, Charles served two consecutive terms on the Baytown City Council, including multiple terms as Mayor Pro-Tem and as a member of the finance committee. His leadership extended beyond the city, representing Baytown on the transportation policy council and the Houston-Galveston Area Council (H-GAC).
Committed to strengthening his community, Charles has served on numerous boards, including the YMCA, the Fred Aguilar Promise Center, Communities In Schools, and the Highlands Sports Association. He currently serves on the Baytown Chamber of Commerce board of directors, the Education Foundation board for Goose Creek CISD, the Methodist Hospital Patient Family Care board, the Optimist Club board, and the Beacon Federal Credit Union nominating committee.
Professionally, Charles is a commercial and residential real estate agent with Coldwell Banker. He previously dedicated seven years to the Bay Area Council on Drugs and Alcohol (BACODA) as a prevention and intervention specialist and community coalition organizer. Before that, he spent 17 years as an operator with LyondellBasell and Targa.
Beyond his career and civic leadership, Charles is a devoted family man. He and his wife, Latoya, have been married for 23 years and are the proud parents of five children—Christopher, Keyshawn, Charles, Charleston, and Charlayne—as well as one grandson, Keyshawn II. In his free time, he enjoys volunteer coaching in basketball, flag football, and track, and he is a passionate supporter of all things Goose Creek CISD and Lee College, from the arts to athletics.
