Improved Infrastructure
The drainage improvement project along West Texas Avenue, from Whiting Street to Jones Street, aims to enhance the existing drainage infrastructure to better manage heavy storm events. This project builds upon previous improvements made on West Texas between Ashbel Street and Jones Street, aiming to deliver a more resilient and efficient stormwater system. Additionally, the project will beautify the area by adding benches, trees, and additional lighting, creating a more inviting and functional space for the community.
Why Is This Project Needed
This is a residential and commercial area that experiences flooding during storm events and has been identified as a critical area for storm sewer system improvements. This project will help facilitate the movement of storm water from local streets and neighborhoods to Goose Creek.
Additionally, it aligns with the broader goal of revitalizing West Texas Avenue, contributing to the downtown area's overall development and enhancing both its functionality and appeal for residents and businesses alike.
Construction Timeline
Construction began in Q4 of 2024 and is expected to be completed by Q2 of 2026.
Phase I: West Texas Avenue from Whiting to Pruett:
- The notice to proceed construction has been issued for December 9, 2024.
- This phase will focus on significant storm drainage infrastructure improvements, as well as upgrades to utilities, sidewalks, and roadways to enhance functionality and safety for the community.
Phase I Traffic Plan
- Construction Area:
- Construction will take place at the intersection of Whiting and Texas Avenue.
- Road Closure:
- No through traffic will be allowed on West Texas Avenue, from Felton to Pruett. However, local access will remain available.
