Hiring Process
- Click on the Apply Here button and complete the online form. You must have your Texas Paramedic certification or be National Registered as a Paramedic.
- Preliminary applicant screening
- Performed internally
- Applicants that pass the preliminary applicant screening will receive an email invitation to the written examination
- Written examination
- Physical agility examination
- Please see our department website for a description of the physical ability exam.
- Personal history statement
- The Personal History Statement packet will be issued to each candidate at the physical agility test. This packet MUST be filled out correctly and completely and returned when you report for your scheduled panel interview.
- Interview panel
- If selected to interview, candidates are interviewed by a panel of current firefighters and fire officers.
- Background investigation
- A thorough investigation based on the responses in your interview, Personal History Statement and reference checks will be completed.
- Polygraph Examination
- A polygraph examination will be administered by Baytown Police Department. You will be asked questions based off of your personal history packet, references, oral interview, and your background investigation.
- Final chief’s interview
- The Fire Chief and Assistant Fire Chief will interview you.
- Prospective job offer by the Chief
- Medical examination & drug test
- Offer of employment after successful completion of all elements
*The hiring process from date of examination typically takes about 60 to 90 days.
- Must complete and file a legible application, when requested.
- Must have a high school diploma or GED documentation, which must be submitted with the application.
- If applicant is a discharged veteran, he or she must provide DD-214 or other proof of discharge under honorable conditions with the application.
- Must intelligently read and write the English language.
- Must be of good moral character.
- Must not have been convicted of, received deferred adjudication for, or probation for:
- a misdemeanor involving moral turpitude;
- a felony;
- bribery;
- official oppression;
- or arson.
- Must not have been convicted within the previous five years of, or found guilty by deferred adjudication, or received probation for:
- driving while intoxicated;
- possession of controlled substance;
- fleeing from police;
- or resisting arrest.
- Must not have formal charges pending for any of the above.
- Must not have made any false statement in any material fact or practiced, or attempted to practice, any deception or fraud in application, examination or appointment.
- Must not have been dismissed from public service for inefficiency, delinquency or misconduct.
- Must appear for all requested examinations and interviews.
- Applicants must take and pass a written examination involving skills, aptitudes and knowledge important for job performance.
- Accepted applicants will be required to take and pass a polygraph examination.
- Investigations that will be conducted and must be acceptable:
- Criminal records.
- Driving record: No more than four moving traffic violations, preventable accidents or any combination.
- Credit history.
- Past employment history.
- General background with respect to references and others who can verify applicant conduct consistent with position requirements.
Applicants may be rejected for employment at any point in the screening process.
