A Tradition of Dance, Family, and Unbreakable Bonds

Home - Parks Posted on January 10, 2025

For many fathers, the Daddy and Me Dance is more than just a fun event—it's a beloved tradition that brings joy, laughter, and unforgettable memories year after year. Gilbert Garcia, who has attended every Daddy and Me Dance since 2015, knows exactly how special these evenings can be.

His journey began when his daughter Sophia, then just 4 years old, attended their first dance together. “I think all of us as fathers definitely need the time away with our girls and enjoy one special night to ourselves,” Gilbert says.

That night sparked the start of an annual tradition—one that has since become a highlight of their year. Now, his daughter is 13, and the family dynamic has expanded.

As his daughter grew, so did the family attending the dance. Over the years, Sophia’s new stepfather, Eddie Sandoval, and her younger sisters, Melanie (5) and AJ (4), joined the tradition. The group also grew beyond the immediate family when they began inviting close friends from church to attend.

Together, they have created a fun, lasting tradition where the fathers and daughters spend a special evening dancing, laughing, and celebrating their bonds.

“My experiences with the Daddy and Me dance have always been filled with joy,” Gilbert recalls.

The Daddy and Me Dance is set to return in 2025 with a Western-themed celebration that promises to be as memorable as the previous ones. There will be dancing, games, activities, and plenty of opportunities for photos. The event will also offer delicious refreshments, making it the perfect outing for families looking to enjoy a fun and meaningful evening together.

The 2025 Daddy and Me Dance will take place on Saturday, February 1st, from 2:00 PM to 8:00 PM as a come-and-go event at the Baytown Community Center located at 2407 Market Street. Tickets are priced at $12.50 per person if purchased by January 31st, after which they will be available at the door for $20.

Be sure to register online by January 31st to secure your spot and take advantage of the early bird pricing. Saddle up and grab your tickets at baytown.org/eventsGilbert Garcia and daughter Sophia dressed for the 2024 Daddy Daughter Dance
