City Council Meeting Preview

City Council Meeting PreviewThe City of Baytown is committed to making sure you are provided with accurate information when you want it today, not tomorrow. That’s why we are bringing you the City Council Preview, where we highlight several topics that will be discussed at the meeting.

This week, councilmembers will be busy considering many projects. One of those is the proposed rehabilitation of the Village at Baytown apartments. The complex, constructed in 1971, would receive interior and exterior upgrades to all 210 units.

City council will also discuss an Industrial District Agreement with Texas Properties. The agreement would last until 2030, unless another agreement is not agreed upon.

Another resolution that will be considered Thursday night is approving the issuance of bonds by the Baytown Area Water Authority in order to upgrade important water infrastructure. There is a need to perform raw water rehabilitation projects due to how old the equipment is and the life of the current pump stations. The continued maintenance and repair costs of the pumps and motors at the pump stations warrant replacement. The BAWA East Expansion Project is necessary to provide enough water capacity for the growth in the BAWA service area and the increased demand for water related to that growth. BAWA is required to have enough water capacity for its existing customers and cannot allow new developments if the water capacity is not available. This project will ensure enough water capacity for future needs.

Baytown Police Chief John Stringer will also present to council. He will be discussing the 2023 Racial Profiling report, including an overview of the data collected.

These are only a few of the topics being discussed during the meeting. To read the agenda, visit the public meetings page on baytown.org. As always, you are encouraged to be a part of the conversation. Council meetings take place in the council chambers at 6:30pm every second and fourth Thursday of the month.
