It was an unbelievable gift that started with a chance mention of an assistance program with the City of Baytown.
“My brother told mom about it and we started looking into it,” said Anna Herrera.
Now their mother, Guadalupe, has a new house thanks to the Community Development Block Grant program. The CDBG program is designed to expand opportunities by providing decent housing and suitable living to all communities.
Anna said, “Everyone played a part in it to help and to know my mom will be able to live comfortable now is just amazing. I really appreciate the City of Baytown for everything they have done.”
The previous house, that the family lived in, was torn down. Replacing it is a three-bedroom home that features new appliances and more. The keys were handed over by City staff and the Community Development Advisory board was on hand to join in the festivities.
The family said they were moving in immediately. Guadalupe, was overwhelmed by the new house and those who showed up to celebrate with her.
She simply said, “Thank you!”
