Pickleball Highlights Pop-Up Park Event

Posted on April 5, 2024 at 5:27 PM by Jason Calder

2024 April Pop Up Park (1)Pickleball, one of the country’s biggest sports crazes, is expanding here in Baytown. The City’s Parks and Recreation Department has been actively looking for ways to increase the number of courts available for the game, suitable for all ages. They have done that at NC Foote Park, while upgrading other parts of the park.

That brings us to the Pop-Up Park event, at N.C. Foote Park, on April 13 from 10am-1pm. Families will be able to explore the new shade structure at the revamped playground, the new trail signage, and the pickleball courts. These projects were created through partnerships with Be Well Baytown, ExxonMobil, and Babies in Baytown.

Clifford Hatch, Parks and Recreation Director, said, “We are excited to partner with these community stakeholders to enhance our park system's amenities.”

He added, “At N.C. Foote Park, we have improved we have improved existing park infrastructure while also adding new activities and amenities for the community to enjoy.”

Councilwoman Laura Alvarado, who is the Community Systems Manager with Babies in Baytown, said, “Babies in Baytown is excited to partner with the City to add a United Way BornLearning Trail Kit.”

The kit includes sidewalk art with various learning opportunities for young children and their families, aligning with Babies in Baytown’s mission of promoting quality engagement during early childhood development.

“We love that the trail kit is installed at N.C. Foote Park, which also helps support healthy outdoor activities,” said Laura.

The Pop-Up Park will also include a fun scavenger hunt and if you complete the game, you will win a water bottle.

Clifford said, “We invite all residents and guests to come and enjoy the results from our collective efforts."
