West Nile Virus Discovered in Mosquito Sample

Posted on June 27, 2024 at 8:04 PM by Jason Calder

The City of Baytown is aware of a positive West Nile Virus result from a mosquito sample tested by Harris County’s Public Health and Environmental Services (HCPHES). No human cases have been reported, but City officials are taking immediate action to prevent any from occurring. A positive mosquito sample helps identify areas that need more treatment to reduce mosquito activity.

West Nile Virus prevention stepsThe City of Baytown’s Health Department encourages residents to continue efforts to protect everyone from West Nile Virus:

·        Wear DEET-based insect spray.

·        Wear long pants and long-sleeved shirts when outdoors.

·        Avoid outdoor activity at dawn and dusk.
