City Clerk’s Office: The Heart of the City
Within the City of Baytown, there are 15 departments working to ensure the city’s success, but only one can serve as the pillar of daily operations and that’s the City Clerk’s Office. This office is managed by City Clerk Angela Jackson and a team of ten dedicated professionals.
“We keep the City intact and we stick together like glue,” said Administrative Assistant Sylvia Aguilar, highlighting the strong bond that exists within the team.
At the heart of Baytown’s operations, the City Clerk’s Office is committed to meeting the diverse needs of the city’s citizens, city council, and staff.
Angela Jackson added, “We are committed to meeting the needs and expectations of the citizens, city council, and city staff while upholding the highest degree of excellence, achieved through dedicated teamwork and professionalism.”
She added, “There is no task that is too big or small.”
The City Clerk’s Office is responsible for a wide range of essential tasks, from managing crucial documents and overseeing elections to issuing birth certificates and various licenses.
Open Government Supervisor Gabriella Gonzales said, “Our office touches every department. We like to think of ourselves as the hub of the City.”
Being the heart, hub, or glue of Baytown comes with significant responsibilities. The office’s success relies on a dedicated and cohesive team, a fact that is well-recognized by those who work there.
Open Government Specialist Alisha Segovia said, “We function as a team, but we are more like family.”
This sense of connection is echoed by Vital Statistics Specialist Glenda Bruce. She said, “I consider these ladies I work with as family because we get to know each other on a personal and professional level. They are my sisters, and we know we can count on each other.”
This deep sense of camaraderie is not limited to a few members, but is felt across the entire team.
Gabriella said, “They always have the best advice and want the best for everyone in our office. I will cherish them forever.”
Records Specialist Ineka Salas shared, “We are a family. We communicate a lot, even when we’re out of the office, just to make sure everyone is okay.”
“We’re always going to be there for one another, but the personal aspect actually makes the work relationships even better because we can be honest with each other to get the job finished,” Administrative Assistant Samantha Diaz.
This honesty and support are vital, especially when facing challenging times. Records Technician Roxanna Cheramie added, “We help each other get through the tough times, and we are committed to supporting each other.”
This strong bond is something Administrative Specialist Valerie Torres deeply appreciates. “I just love how connected we all are,” she said.
This connection, however, doesn’t mean the team is without its occasional disagreements. Clerk Records Supervisor Shannon Bennett said, “We treat each other as family. We have some disagreements, but at the end of the day, we come back together as a group and still love one another.”
The close-knit nature of this team is what makes the City Clerk’s Office so special and effective in their work. Shannon said, “We are here to serve the citizens and want to have the answers for everyone, even if it has nothing to do with our department.”
The work ethic and dedication found within the City Clerk’s Office are unmatched, with each member recognizing and appreciating one another’s strengths.
Gabriella said, “Everyone knows their role and is continuously learning, but we also collaborate and build each other up when one of us needs it. We truly go the extra mile for every citizen.”
This positive work environment is credited to both Angela Jackson’s leadership and the overall culture of the City of Baytown.
Shannon said, “There’s a lot of diversity here, and you can tell that everyone wants to see Baytown thrive.”
Glenda said, “If I was on the side of the road and the City Manager drove by and saw me, I know that he would stop and help or pick me up. That’s the way we operate from top to bottom.”
For those considering a career in local government, the City of Baytown offers a welcoming and rewarding environment.
Ineka said, “Go for it. Try it because you will be surprised.”
“In addition to the great work/life balance, the benefits and retirement are the best around,” said Samantha.
Valerie added, “I found my passion here, and I wasn’t even expecting it, and it’s all because of the environment here at the City.”
