Winter Storm Enzo Recap (January 22, 9:30am)
As residents watch the snow and ice melt, the City of Baytown continues to provide updates in order to keep you safe now that Winter Storm Enzo has passed.
Bridge and Road Conditions
Roadways have been very slick this morning and there will be some spots that will freeze overnight. Remember that bridges and elevated surfaces freeze quicker than other roadways. We know you will try to get out as the snow melts, but be looking for black ice. You should drive slowly, don’t use cruise control, and remember to allow more stopping distance to avoid an accident.
The Fred Hartman and I-10 bridges are open, but some spots will likely freeze overnight.
Currently, TxDOT says the Fred Hartman and I-10 bridges are open. The City of Baytown and TxDOT will be providing more updates throughout the day. Visit https://traffic.houstontranstar.org for the latest.
Warming Centers
As of this morning, the City’s warming center is open at San Jacinto Church located at 710 Alamo Street. Red Cross representatives are on hand to help residents.
As it warms up, considerations to close the center will take place.
The City activates warming centers when specific criteria is met from the National Weather Service:
Hard Freeze Warning- lasting more than two hours
Winter Storm Warning- more than two inches of snow, more than a half inch of sleet or 1/8th of an inch of ice that would make travel difficult.
Harris County Precinct 2 Community Centers are open from 8am-6pm to serve as warming centers. The nearest center is the J.D. Walker Community Center, located at 7613 Wade Road in Baytown.
Check Your Pipes
While temperatures are warming up, we are still going to be below or at freezing tonight and the rest of the week. This is a good time to check your pipes to see if you have any breaks. Keep protecting your pipes to prevent any other issues.
Rather than let your faucets drip, locate your water meter, shut off the main valve, and open faucets to drain any remaining water.
To report water problems, traffic sign problems, and signal issues, call 281-420-5300. You can also make a report on the Better Baytown app or by visiting https://www.baytown.org/1076/About-Public-Works.
