Baytown Bulkheads to Compete in Cowboy Collegiate League

Baytown is adding a new sound to summer nights at Jenkins Park. Collegiate summer baseball is coming to the city as the Cowboy Collegiate League launches its inaugural season in May, bringing competitive play and family-friendly entertainment to the community.

The city’s team, the Baytown Bulkheads, will compete in a 40-game season against teams from Galveston, Pearland, and other communities across the state. The name reflects Baytown’s connection to the bay, port, and shipping industry, while the hammerhead shark logo reinforces the city’s coastal identity and competitive spirit.

City Manager Jason Reynolds said, “This partnership reflects Baytown’s continued investment in high-quality recreational amenities and experiences. Jenkins Park is one of our premier facilities, and welcoming collegiate summer baseball strengthens our quality of life and our ability to attract regional visitors.”

For The Players League, Baytown stood out early.

James Boatwright, Director of Management Services, said, “When we look to expand, we look for communities that are passionate about where they live. Baytown is a community that deserves something it can call its own and enjoy right in their backyard.”

The Cowboy Collegiate League is affiliated with The Players League and provides college athletes with additional development opportunities during the summer months. League officials emphasize intentional recruiting and high-level competition.

“When people hear collegiate summer baseball, they should expect top-tier talent, said Michael Caveney, Commissioner of the Cowboy Collegiate League. “We want this league to be one of the top summer leagues in the country.”

Beyond the competition, the focus is community.

Caveney said, “It’s about building an experience. Families can come out, kids can meet players, and everyone can really make memories together.”

The partnership includes a multi-year agreement aimed at establishing a long-term presence in Baytown. Experienced coaches, including former Major League Baseball players, will be involved in the league, providing professional mentorship and insight.

Season schedules, ticket information, and partnership opportunities will be announced in the coming weeks. Check out the Visit Baytown website the Baytown Baseball Sports website or follow the City of Baytown and the Baytown Bulkheads on social media for updates.
