Mayor Brandon Capetillo met with Dennis Voris, who works with the Loving Hands Deaf Ministry, and presented him with an official proclamation recognizing September as Deaf Awareness & Acceptance Month in Baytown. Dennis also works as a substitute teacher and is beloved volunteer at the Visitor Information Center inside the Brunson.
Deaf Awareness Month started 65 years ago with a focus on improving the human rights of the deaf community, while expanding the instruction of national sign languages and adding more access to education. It’s important for Baytown to ensure that deaf residents have equal access to benefits and opportunities available to our community.
The City of Baytown proudly recognizes the deaf community and the efforts Mr. Voris puts in to helping our residents.
