The City of Baytown wants you and your family to join us for a free movie night this Saturday night. The hope is that you will walk away inspired, never being afraid of those who say you can’t do something when others believe that you can.
The evening’s featured movie is the newly released “I Can,” the true story of Katelyn Pavey. Katelyn was born with one fully-developed arm, but became an All-American college softball player on a full scholarship. The movie tells the story of how Katelyn’s father gave her the “I Can” mentality, despite all of the challenges they faced.
Director Tyler Sansom talked about the reasons why he wanted to direct the first-ever softball movie.
Tyler said, “The Pavey family goes to my church, so their story is near and dear to me. I thought it would be a great story to tell that many people could relate to.”
While the movie focuses on Katelyn defying the odds, it does discuss some difficult life choices. The story touches on a couple’s affair that leads to an unexpected pregnancy. Katelyn’s dad believes her birth defect is God’s punishment for the affair.
He said, “The movie is a story about Katelyn overcoming adversity and her dad finding genuine forgiveness.”
Tyler said it was a dream come true to direct this movie with actors like Daniel Roebuck, Danner Brown, and former college football coach Mark Richt. He said while he doesn’t have any Texas ties, he is proud the movie is being viewed here in Baytown.
Tyler said, “The best part was how close the cast and crew became. We had about 100 people involved in the main cast and crew. It became a huge family.”
He added, “The movie is out in nearly every state in the United States in about 150 theaters. It was such an honor.”
While the original plan was to show the movie on the ideal location, a softball field, the rain out allowed the City’s Parks and Recreation team to create an enhanced viewing experience inside the Baytown Christian Academy Gym at 5555 North Main Street. The movie starts at 7pm, you can bring blankets or chairs, and the movie snacks will be provided for free.
Tyler hopes you will come out to see his movie and leave ready to conquer the world.
He said, “I hope that people are inspired to adopt the ‘I Can’ mentality and overcome whatever life is throwing at them.”
