It’s important to be prepared regardless of what the weather situation is and the City of Baytown is not any different. City crews have been preparing for this week’s rainfall and if there is potential for flooding, the City is ready. High-water rescue vehicles are staged and ready if needed. Generators have been tested and ready to support City operations where needed. Emergency operation officials have been coordinating with other agencies to make sure assets are on standby.

Hurricane season has just started, but here are a few ways you can prepare to make sure you have the best information regarding this week’s storms and future ones:

  1. Sign up for Baytown Alert.
  2. Have an emergency plan.
  3. Have an emergency kit.
  4. Watch Channel 16 on Comcast or on the City of Baytown’s website, as well as the City’s social media pages, for emergency announcements.
  5. Make sure your phones and other important devices are charged.
  6. Make sure your vehicle has a full tank of gas.
  7. Don’t be scared, be prepared. Watch this video from the Federal Emergency Management Agency.

It's also important to clear ditches and other drainage areas of debris, trash, or other household items.
